People that view comedy have their varies opinions on the art form. Some people feel that too much of one thing for a percentage of the population is not good for others in the business of entertainment.
According to Elba, speaking at Len's Project's "Artist Spotlight" over the weekend, it is time Perry and others focus on "elevating film"
"I don’t like all of Tyler Perry’s films. Yes, I did work with Tyler for “Daddy’s Little Girls” because it portrayed a positive image of a black father. I am happy for Tyler’s success…we need Tyler Perry…by going to support his movies, we need to show economic strength. But we are also responsible for elevating film,' Elba said addressing what has become a debate of sorts between Spike Lee and Perry. "I’m not with buffoonish characters like Madea or Big Momma."
"I think there's a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery. I see ads for 'Meet the Browns' and 'House of Payne' and I'm scratching my head," Lee said in 2009. "We've got a black president and we're going back. The image is troubling and it takes us back to Amos 'n' Andy."
