Fifty percent of homeless people have the following characteristics. They are former foster children that were let go by the state, have very little job skills and most are the minority of the United States population. Once a child turns 18 in most states and, they were under foster care, they are kicked out of the foster care system with little or no help. The only time they may receive help if they are 18 and still in high school or if they go on to college. In most cases, the kids do not go onto college therefore , the 18 year old foster kids are put out in the streets if no one will help them.

Many people do no know that celebrities such as The Game, DMX, Maria and others were at one point in their life time in the foster care system. DMC of Run DMC brought this to light at the annual WHALER's Creation walk. This walk is held every year to bring light to the problems that the foster care children face and to show how foster kids are like any other child. A person has to take the time out to reach the children. DMC points out that everyday about 8 people come up to him and tell him about their experience in the foster care system.

DMC found out at the age of 35 that his parents were not his biological parents. This information put him in a state of depression and guided him to help other kids in the foster care system. At 35 DMC was the only one not to know that he was adopted, others around him knew such as his friends and neighbors. DMC was part of a documentary about the problems in the foster care system.
